As Easter Sunday passed, the sad news trickled down

Shock, horror and disbelief rippled through your

hometown six soldiers were lost, and among them you lay

your young life ended much too soon on this day.

A strong and vibrant devil-may-care kid your grin and

charm far outweighing anything bad you did.

Off to the forces from high school you went,

although then we didn’t know what that meant

You worked hard to become a soldier, and always tried

your best and you stood shoulder to shoulder over there

with all the rest, of the brave young men and women, so

proud to defend our country’s freedom and it’s honor,

sadly to the end.

Though we didn’t get to tell you how proud of you we are,

I hope you felt our love and thanks, shelter you like the

stars.

Mere words could never express our loss of you this day

your short 20 years on earth Blessed us in so many

different ways.

Watching you grow up, and becoming a wonderful man,

who was to know then what was to be God’s plan.

He must have needed a brave soldier, to sit by his side,

your fallen comrades and yourself will serve Him now with

pride.

Kevin, we will smile and think of you with love

as we look to God for guidance, look to the heavens

above.

Watch over us now as you did here on earth,

we hope and pray Afghanistan feels your worth.

Tributes:

A Tribute to PTE Kevin Kennedy:

For years, St Lawrence & St Lawrence Academy has had more than their share of victories & accomplishments and for years, more than their share of tragedy. Today, however, it is my distinct privilege and honor to pay tribute to a young man who brought pride to this town by being a “True BLUE Laurentian”

My name is Keith Farrell; I was one of Kevin’s teachers for many of his school years.

A typical student, Kevin was not…Everything he attempted to do or to say would either be taken too serious or not serious enough. Kevin’s joyous personality, his broad smile and his mischievous eyes often played havoc with his teachers and classmates, alike. Despite being this character, he was loved and respected by the entire school.

Kevin was involved in every aspect of school…so much so, in his graduating year, he received the service award. Kevin’s involvement in intramurals, cross country running and basketball were topped only by is involvement in soccer. He once told me that wearing a Blue Soccer uniform was awesome and I said to him…You better “suck it up” if you wear #8, because that was my number!! Probably his greatest accomplishment in soccer was being selected to the Provincial under 18 Soccer Team, which represented Newfoundland in Edmonton, Alberta.

Kevin’s junior high school years were tough, but like many other students, he matured with age and when he reached senior high, his interest and marks “ sky-rocketed”. Kevin’s maturity eventually went from wearing a “Red Baseball Cap”, to wearing a green Barret; from wearing a blue soccer uniform, to wearing a Camo Military Uniform…from playing soccer on the fields of Newfoundland to doing Military Duty on the fields in Afghanistan. From giving it all for his friends, to giving his life for our country!

Good Luck, God Bless, Thanks, Kevin

We Will Miss You but We will never forget !
