I would like to pass on my deepest condolences to members of the Kennedy family during this difficult time. We often look at the news and read in the paper about what is going on around the world and think, "this would never happen to us" this will never affect us" We often forget how fortunate we are to have such brave solders from our community where we too grew up and still call home. Their contributions and sacrifice will never be forgotten. We have many others from St. Lawrence and the surrounding community in the same location and other parts of the world contributing their lives for the rest of man kind. I am sure they are sharing our sorrow at this time. May god watch over them and bring them home to safety. God bless

It is with a wounded spirit and broken heart that the citizens of St.Lawrence extend our reverence and condolence to the Kennedy Family . Indeed , the gratitude of every home in our community , on our island , in our Country and throughout the democratic world , except in the abodes of the guilty goes out to the Kennedy Family and our Canadian servicemen , undaunted by odds , unyielding in their constant challenge and mortal danger they will turn the tide of tyranny . In the field of human loss and conflict so much is owed by so many to so few . With A Grateful Heart , Wayde ROWSELL MAYOR - St.Lawrence

My heart is heavy for the sadness the family feels at this time.I hope that knowing strangers share your sorrow will provide a small measure of comfort for you. I read that Kevin believed in the mission for which he was engaged in.I,too believe in it.I am not able to express with words my personal appreciation for the bravery of the men & women who so valiantly fight for the freedom of us all. I just wanted to pass on my deepest sympathies to the Kennedy family and the families of the other Canadian hero's killed protecting our freedom and the freedom of our unborn children. Although I am an educated man I cannot find the words to express what I feel for Kevin's family and for the other families as well so I will make use of some words written a long time ago by Abraham Lincoln to the mother of a dead soldier. "I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom." May God watch over the Kennedy family during this most difficult time. Finally to Kevin, may God bless your soul and may you rest in peace.

Over the past few years Kevin and I had become really close friends, altough my memories of him go all the way back since I can remember. It was only three weeks ago that I was talking to him from kandahar. Kevin loved to call and find out what was going on in st.lawrence or just how everyone was doing. I have so many memories of him its hard to choose which ones to share. My fondest memory of him and one which maybe everyone can relate to is no matter what Kevin did or whether you were mad at him or not he could always make you smile...even when you didn't want to. My thoughts and prayers go out to Mrs.Kay, Mr. Miles, and Michael. May God Bless you Kevin Love U Always Denise

Whenever you see the updates on this war on the news, you never think it can affect you. Until a tragedy like this happens, it doesn't hit home. For everyone, no matter the age or gender, if you are from St. Lawrence, the news of Kevin and the other five soldiers hit you like a kick in the guts. I can only imagine what his mom, dad, and brother Michael are going through at this time. I can remember Kevin growing up, he was a few years younger than me but, could he ever tell a joke. I know he's making people laugh somewhere right now. My heartfelt prayers go out Michael, Kay,and Myles - I know nothing can change the way they feel or what happened, but Kevin did what he loved to do and just know that he is a true hero and everyone is so proud of him for doing what he did. You really are a hero, Kevin.

Myles, Kay and Michael, words will never be able to fill the void kevin has left in all of us, know that we are thinking of you. God Bless you all. Kevin, As Easter Sunday passed, the sad news trickled down Shock, horror and disbelief rippled through your hometown six soldiers were lost, and among them you lay your young life ended much too soon on this day. A strong and vibrant devil-may-care kid your grin and charm far outweighing anything bad you did. Off to the forces from high school you went, although then we didn’t know what that meant You worked hard to become a soldier, and always tried your best and you stood shoulder to shoulder over there with all the rest, of the brave young men and women, so proud to defend our country’s freedom and it’s honor, sadly to the end. Though we didn’t get to tell you how proud of you we are, I hope you felt our love and thanks, shelter you like the stars Mere words could never express our loss of you this day your short 20 years on earth Blessed us in so many different ways. Watching you grow up, and becoming a wonderful man, who was to know then what was to be God’s plan. He must have needed a brave soldier, to sit by his side, your fallen comrades and yourself will serve Him now with pride. Kevin, we will smile and think of you with love as we look to God for guidance, look to the heavens above. Watch over us now as you did here on earth, we hope and pray Afghanistan feels your worth.

It is with my deepest sympathy that I give my heart felt thanks to the family that raised a young man to have the bravery and courage to protect and defend his country, they are to be commended. It's so odd to see pictures of Kevin in his uniform with such a serious face. Anyone who knows Kevin knows that he always had that little smirk to let you know that he probably was up to something haha. when a friend called and told me the news about Kevin, all I could say was "What". I just kept saying no its not the Kevin we all know, can't be. I remember Kevin growing up as a care free kid, he was older then my second son but he always made time to kick the ball around the soccer field with him and a few buddies.I look at his picture as I type this and he looks so grown up, he became a man over night. When I called dad(Pat) to tell him the news after it sank in he said "oh my buddy" dad spent alot of time at the Kennedey home and seen Kevin and Micheal grow up. and remembers Kevin as a joker also.Mrs Kay, Mr Myles, Micheal, I'm am so sorry you have to go through this, my prayer and thoughts are with you always. I know that Kevin will always be remembered and missed by everyone. I feel better knowing that Kevin is now watching over us from his new home. Kevin may you rest in peace.

Kevin has touched the lives of each and every person that ever knew him.A true Canadian "hero". Our province from coast to coast is in mourning. But nowhere is the sorrow greater than that of his family Being cousins, we were priviliged to have known Kevin on a personal level. He brought light into our home with each and every visit. We truly loved him.His last email on January 13 will register in our minds forever. He went on to say he loved us and would miss us.He said when he came home in August we'd get together for "good times"once again. His last sentence was to my husband, it was"tell Eddie, no matter what happens in life, his still a fag.hahaha Kevin Kay, Myles, Michael,Gibbons and Kennedy families. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. With Gods guidance you will get through this difficult time.No words could even begin to help at a time like this but we want you to know, that we love you and are here for you.RIP Kevin Love, Eddie and Debbie Tobin

Oh my...where to start. I find myself reading these messages and then find myself lost for words. What can you say at a time like this? I remember being a young teenager and babysitting Michael and Kevin a few times with Michelle Ducey. So sad to see those young men lose their lives. However we must remember what they gave their lives for. Many of us have lost sons and I share the parents sorrow, it is a sorrow only those who have walked the road know. I am thinking of the family and send my sincere sympathy

My deepest condolences are extended to: Myles & The Kennedy Family Kay & The Gibbons Family Kevins brother Michael. I would also like to extend my sympathy to Kevin's Home Town "The Town of St. Lawrence". Kevin you will always be remembered: To St. Lawrence - a true Laurentian. To Newfoundland and Labrador Fighting Newfoundlander To Canada as a loyal, "Soldier". In honor of Kevin Kennedy A Soldier There is discipline in A Soldier you can see it when he walks. There is honor in A Soldier you hear it when he talks. There is courage in A Soldier you can see it in his eyes, There is loyalty in A Soldier that he will not compromise. There is something in A Soldier that makes him stand apart. There is strength in A Soldier that beats from his heart. A Soldier isn't a title any man can be hired to do. A Soldier is the soul of that man buried deep inside of you. A Soldier's job isn't finished afteran 8 hour day or a 40 hour week. A Soldier is always A Soldier even while he sleeps. A Soldier serves his country first and his life is left behind. A Soldier has to sacrifice what comes first in a civilian's mind. If you are civilian - I am saying this to you..... next time you see A Soldier remember what they do. A Soldier is the reason our land is 'Home of the free', A Soldier is the one that is brave protecting you and me. If you are A Soldier - I am saying this to you..... Thank God for EVERY SOLDIER Thank God for what YOU do! God Bless

Please accept my deepest sympathy on the death of your son. I am from St.John's but live in Ontario like many other Newfies. No matter who you are or where you are news of our soldiers being killed hits home. I hope it brings some comfort at the difficult time knowing that the entire country mourns with you. About seven years ago my husband and I put up a flag pole in the centre of our front lawn raising a few eyebrows. We didn't care then and certainly not now as we lower the Canadian flag to honour those soldiers killed fighting to keep our freedom. Although when we put in the flag pole we did so to honour our country. Little did we know it would serve a different purpose which is to honour our soldiers in their quest for our freedom. I am proud to look up at the flag when it is blowing high in the wind knowing that it shows support for our troops. My heart breaks when I have to lower it. My community has many military personal from Base Borden and my immediate neighbor is Pastor Angela James who is currently on deployment to Germany. Angela and many of the soldiers from Base Border have thanked us for flying the flag and for lowing it when needed. I am sorry for my long winded message I just hope it bring you some comfort knowing that total strangers feel your pain. Thank you for creating this website thus in part allowing us to get to know Kevin. Kevin - THANK YOU - Rest in Peace

My thoughts and prayers are with Kevin's family as they go through this difficult time. I myself have 2 cousins serving over in Afganistan. They are my hero's as i'm sure Kevin is Yours.. Here is a poem called "the last inspection" a friend of mine showed me this a while back and it remarkable i dont know who wrote it.. But in the end i am sure Kevin is in heaven sitting next to god THE FINAL INSPECTION The soldier stood and faced God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shining, Just as brightly as his brass. "Step forward now, you soldier, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To My Church have you been true?" The soldier squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't. Because those of us who carry guns, Can't always be a saint. I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was tough. And sometimes I've been violent, Because the world is awfully rough. But, I never took a penny, That wasn't mine to keep... Though I worked a lot of overtime, When the bills got just too steep. And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God, forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears. I know I don't deserve a place, Among the people here. They never wanted me around, Except to calm their fears. Message - Report If you've a place for me here, Lord, It needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't, I'll understand. There was a silence all around the throne, Where the saints had often trod. As the soldier waited quietly, For the judgment of his God. "Step forward now, you soldier, You've borne your burdens well. Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets, You've done your time in Hell."

Brave lad we are saddened by your lost, to stand for truth and freedom you paid the highest cost. The pictures tell your story causing tears to flow and the dying thoughts upon your heart we will never know. Did you think of mother or maybe think of home? Did you say a simple prayer for others you have known. We honor you brave soilder you live in memory still and while there is a rock called Newfoundland we know you always will. The murderers who took your life will one day dearly pay when they stand before a righteous judge and hears what he will say Rest now brave soilder boy to the mission you were true And we who live and yet remain we owe so much to you. The winds will sweep our rugged shores our sons will rise to fight and your spirit like a candle will glow forever bright. I didn't know Kevin, but seeing the pictures on this site really make this real. As odd as it sounds, the picture of he and his buddy in their apartment (games and stereo in the background) remind me of myself and my buddies at 20. The difference is that we were working toward a career behind a desk and he was focused on serving his country...which he obviously did with great courage. I didn't know Kevin, but I admire him and all those in uniform more than ever. I wish his family and friends strength at this difficult time and the same courage that made him the person he was. God bless.

I met Kevin in 2005 when he was living in Wabush, he worked in the kitchen of a restuarant/hotel, while I worked the front desk there. I always looked forward to him coming into work. He always had a smile on his face, and time for a little chat. I only knew Kevin for a short time, but in that time I could tell he was a very special person; in his actions, and his words. Kevin was the type of guy that even if you met him for just a moment, you would remember him for a lifetime. My thoughts and prayers are with Kevin's family through this time. God has a new angel now, and he's one of the best.

Words could never express my deepest sorrow and heartfelt sympathy to all the friends and family members of Kevin Kennedy. I did not know Kevin personally, but living in a military community, you don't have to actually know someone to feel that you have a bond or connection with them. I'm from Newfoundland originally and over the years I have come to know that the bond between fellow Newfoundlanders is so much the same as the connection shared between a military community. As soon as someone discovers you are from Newfoundland, the next questions to follow are what part and do you know so and so? The same holds true for our military family - your husband is in the service? What trade is he? It is because of this great bond we share that I and so many others here in Canadian Forces Base Gagetown have heavy hearts today. May you find comfort in knowing that your loss is our loss too. Thank you for posting this memorial for Kevin, but most of all thank you for allowing me to be a part of it. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Tracy Brunet Oromocto, NB

I wish to send my condolences to Kevin’s family and friends back home. I am a Newfoundlander in Kandahar and I had the pleasure to meet Kevin and help him and Pte. David Greenslade plan their trip for their leave, which unfortunately they both could not take. It’s funny how living in a war zone you can make yourself comfortable with the help of friends around. The rockets and attacks become a way of life, and you count the days until you are leaving this place, only to realize you will miss your friends and comrades as soon as you are home. It was heart wrenching to see six Canadian flagged coffins carried to a waiting Hercules Aircraft to take six of our friends back to their loved ones and final resting place. Nothing hits your heart the hardest then watching a solider cry. Goodbye Kevin.

Since I know the sadness that I felt last Sunday when I received the news about Kevin, I can only imagine the loss and sorrow that is felt by Myles, Kay, and Michael. Memories of Kevin came quickly flooding back and I can say that most of them are lasting ones of Kevin pulling one of his famous practical jokes, or seeing him with that impish little grin when just knew he was up to something funny, or when he was just trying to rally evryone else to get things done with his usual words: "C'mon boys, we might as well get this over with". Kevin was always the one who kept everyone else loose whether he was in class, on a sports team, or just walking around with his friends. He was a friend to everyone and everyone was his friend. Disagreements didn't last long with Kevin and he could be mad at you one minute and back helping you out the next. I remember Kevin as someone who knew what he wanted and he always talked of entering the Canadian Forces. Kevin, you lead life to the fullest and you followed the path you chose. You are a hero to us all and we continue to be proud of what you have done. Myles, Kay, and Michael I extend my sincerest condolences and hope that the memories of the life Kevin lead and the pride he took in what he was doing will help get you over this tragic loss. Unfortunately, I will not get home for the services, but please know my prayers are with you all at this time.

Greater love hath no man than to lay down his life for another. For every fallen hero there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time. Kevin’s selflessness is an example for all. This courageous soldier will forever be an angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that will now mean more than ever. I am sorry that Kevin’s life was cut short so tragically. As the mother of one son, I cannot imagine the pain you feel at this terrible loss. May God grant you strength as you keep Kevin’s memory alive. May he and his comrades who have died never ever be forgotten. May St. Peter know a soldier has reported for duty. Rest peacefully, young man.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Kay,Myles and Michael. As a best friend of the family, I watched Kevin grow up into a vibrant young man. He was a bit of a character always happy go lucky with that big wide grin. He loved to carry-on and torment kay whenever she was feeling down just to make her laugh. He adored her and always told her that she was his world. Whenever he got a chance he was calling her from over there. I use to talk to her on MSN practically everyday and I would ask her "Well what about Kevin" she use to say please keep him in your prays that he will come home to us. Kevin was very proud to serve his country and kept his troops entertained. God bless you and watch over your family. May you rest in Peace!!!

We would like to express our deepest sympathy to Myles, Kay, Michael & family on your incredible loss. I can only remember Kevin as a child. But what a fine, outstanding young man he grew to become, indeed - as we can all read from the messages of love and admiration, entered on this website. The call to serve our country is great, and answered only by those who exhibit the qualities of utmost bravery and human compassion. You will never know how thankful we are, as fellow Laurentians, Newfoundlanders & Labradorians, and Canadians. God speed Kevin, sweet dreams.

Kay & Family, So sorry to hear of Kevin's passing. I didnt have the privilege of actually knowing Kevin, even though he was my cousin, but living such far distances away I guess made it kind of difficult. I do remember the visits you guys made to our home when we lived in St. Vincents and the fun we had playing with each other. I had also said to Mom the other day about the time you and the boys visited us in Trepassey. I think they were a little shy because they stayed in the car the whole time! Kay & Myles you should be very proud of your son because he is a hero in everyone's eyes. Take care.
