St. Lawrence Laurentians

Cape Chapeau Rouge is the most remarkable cape in all Newfoundland - an immense heap of ragged craggy rocks, placed one upon the other. Viewed from the sea, every fathom of your move gives it a new shape. The most striking appearance is when fog is hovering over it. It appears like a Dutchman without legs, a hat, a Lion Rampant, a bust, a broken turret and lastly a broken, irregular craggy mountain.

  • Trail Length: 4km
  • Duration: 1-1.5 hours
  • Difficulty: mostly level dry trails with approx. 20% up hill.
  • Some moderately wet peat sections. Rest areas are provided on trail. Water and a light snack are recommended. High winds are common.
The trail leading to the Cape is breathtaking by the scenery and the overall view of the small town St. Lawrence where Cape Chapeau Rouge stands tall guarding the entrance of the harbor.
