St. Lawrence Harbour at Herring CoveSt. Lawrence has the potential for a very prosperous tourism industry and it is an integral part of the Heritage Run.

Among St. Lawrence major tourist attractions many visitors wish to see the historic sight of the Truxton and Pollux disaster from Chambers Cove and Lawn Point.

For the outdoors person, St. Lawrence and its surroundings provide vast area of untapped natural beauty; the topography is ideal for the individuals who appreciate hunting and fishing. The lakes and rivers brimming with fish and water fowl while the forest's offer a variety of small game such as rabbits and partridges and large game such as moose and bear.

During 2008 a wind farm was erected in St. Lawrence that can generate enough electricity to run several small communities, and cut down on oil burned at a power plant. The turbines can generate 27 megawatts of electricity. The project is the first commercial wind farm in Newfoundland and Labrador.

View from the top of the wind turbinesWind is a common and very reliable source of energy on the island. The site has a gentle sloping hill, designed to pick up a consistent supply of wind. The wind farm will provide enough power for about 6,800 homes.

Hydro says the clean source of power will mean it can reduce the amount of oil it burns at its generating station in Holyrood by at least 160,000 barrels.
